It’s no surprise that Rihanna would be the most influential person in Black fashion. From her urban wear Puma collection, cosmetics line, and infamous lingerie collection, Rihanna has proven to make a difference by bringing diversity to Black Fashion. It all started with her platformed Fenty Creeper Puma collection, which was introduced to us in 2016 when Rihanna began her takeover in the fashion world. The well-known “Creepers” were the shoes to have during 2016.
After that period, Rihanna began to evolve in her fashion and beauty career by launching her own cosmetics line entitled Fenty Beauty. It was not until 2018 where Rihanna introduced the world to her Savage X Fenty clothing brand. It was the brand to have during this time. It was such a milestone in Black fashion because we have another affordable Black-owned clothing brand. In 2019, Rihanna partnered with LVHM to launch the self-titled Fenty. Launching was a major deal for Rihanna because Fenty became the first LVHM brand to launch from scratch since Christian Lacroix in 1987.
Now Rihanna is a significant fashion designer in Black Fashion, making clothes for people of all shapes and sizes. Critics describe Fenty as an inclusive clothing brand. She even broke the internet when she released her Fenty plus-sized collection in 2020. Rihanna has become the blueprint for other upcoming black fashion designers. With other Black-owned labels such as Telfar, Black fashion is evolving and flourishing in a beautiful direction.
