The 80's Are In!

From the colorful clothing to the crazy hairstyles, the ’80s were a wild time for fashion trends. One trend that has come back in style is shoulder pads. Although shoulder pads were invented in 1877 by a Princeton football player by the name of L.P. Smock, it has been an important part of fashion. Shoulder pads have become one of the most popular things in fashion today. One example of shoulder pads in fashion is the oversized shoulder pad boyfriend jackets. This vintage look can look good with some high-waisted jeans or shorts. Me personally, I love the oversized vintage look that goes along with the shoulder pads. It’s very sheik and classy. I’d wear a nice pair of boots (or heels) with high-waisted pants.

Shoulder pad blazers can be dressed in many ways. It could be implemented into a classy, grungy, or even an urban look.

For a classy look, the blazer can be dressed in some high waist dress pants (preferably the same color as the blazer). As a top, I would do a nice short-sleeved dress shirt. For shoes, I would wear a pair of closed-toe heels.

For a grungy look, I would wear a nice graphic t-shirt with either a plaid or leather skirt (or shorts) and find a nice black pair of Doc Marten boots with some ruffled socks. Adding the blazer would make the look sort of “preppy.” It also gives that punk rock band feel to it.

As an urban look, wearing a graphic t-shirt with some jeans will give it that urban prep look. As for shoes, I would wear a pair of Jordan 1’s or Nike blazers to give it that street-style feel. Adding the blazer will give it sort of the ‘90s feel if you wear it right.

With shoulder pad blazers being a thing, even celebrities like Rihanna caught wind of the trend. Shoulder pad blazers will forever be an ongoing thing in high fashion. It will never grow old.
